A Taste of Melton's The Star and the Crescent
Curious about the fascinating and complex relationship between Judaism and Islam? Join us for a taste of the longer Melton course where we’ll explore the approach and questions that shape our journey together. As a sample, we’ll dive into Chapter One, which looks at the Tanakh and the Quran—the foundational texts of Judaism and Islam. Through a comparative reading of a few texts, we’ll discover surprising parallels as well as important differences, and begin to see how these two traditions developed in distinct directions. This introductory session offers a glimpse of the broader course, which explores the rich, complicated history of Jewish-Muslim interactions while moving beyond one-dimensional views to consider the connections, contrasts, challenges, and shared experiences that have shaped these two civilizations.
