The MJCCA Announces Teen Community Service Trip to New Orleans

The Marcus Jewish Community Center of Atlanta (MJCCA) recently announced its “Food for Thought” Teen Community Service (TCS) trip to New Orleans, LA, April 3-6, 2014. Application deadline is December 20, 2013. For information, contact Amy Helman-Darley at 678.812.3978.

The MJCCA’s Amy Helman-Darley said, “Through this unique trip, teens from across Atlanta are invited to learn how to effect social change, connect with a select group of Atlanta and San Francisco teens to broaden their world view, and uncover their ability to make a difference.”

About “Food for Thought”

TCS’s “Food for Thought” service trip to New Orleans is a six session social justice learning program based around a 3-day teen service trip to New Orleans. The program includes: activities, discussions, guest speakers, films, and a final session at which participants will present a mixed-media project. Both seasoned activists and those new to social justice are welcome to participate. Teens will discover the culture, history and traditions of New Orleans; understand the cultural significance of this great city; and immerse themselves in rebuilding the city through hands-on projects.

 

The Trip to New Orleans Includes: 

 Round trip flight from Atlanta to New Orleans 

 3 Night/3 Day Hotel Accommodations

 All meals provided

 Shabbat at the Avodah House

 Walking Tours of Historic French Quarter

 Restoration Projects at NOLA Green Roots and Our School at Blair Grocery

 New Orleans Gospel Choir

 

New Orleans Trip Prices:

Option 1: $900 per person – includes air travel, transportation in New Orleans, hotel and all meals. (Does not include fee to check baggage, personal spending money, or food at airport.) 

Option 2: $550 per person – includes transportation in New Orleans, hotel and all meals. (Does not include round-trip flight to New Orleans, fee to check baggage, personal spending money, or food at airport.) Participants will be responsible for booking their own ticket on the group flight. 

 

Scholarships and payment plans are available. Applications are due December 20, 2013.
