New Exhibition, “Your Jewish Home,”Opens August 26 at the MJCCA Sophie Hirsh Srochi Jewish Discovery Museum

On August 26, 2007, The
Sophie Hirsh Srochi Jewish Discovery
Museum of the Marcus Jewish Community Center of Atlanta (MJCCA) will open
an exhibition entitled, "Your Jewish
Home." The Sophie Hirsh Srochi Jewish Discovery Museum is a children's
museum which focuses on integrating Judaism through interactive play, wonder
and exploration.

The Museum's new
exhibition, "Your Jewish Home," will open the door to children's imaginations
when they step inside a home built just for them.  Children will have the
opportunity to:  play with their furry pets
in the front yard, help each other plant and harvest in the garden, and have a
picnic in the Sukkah.  In the child-sized kitchens, children can choose to
prepare a kosher dairy meal or a kosher meat meal. They can then set the table
for their friends and family, and dress up for a fancy dinner. They can
explore the treasures and toys in the child's room, or try their hand at the
Hebrew school homework. The Museum offers a cozy corner to read, a hollow in
a life-sized tree to curl up for quiet time, and a park bench to sit and take
it all in.  Each portion of the exhibition has a detailed explanation
of its relationship to Jewish thought, holidays, and customs.  The "Your Jewish Home," exhibition was
co-designed by Museum Director Cyndi Shapiro and Travis George, and will run
through February 1, 2008.

Additionally, The Sophie Hirsh Srochi Jewish Discovery Museum
invites children and their families from across the community to enjoy Sunday
Family Fundays. Families will delight in traditional stories and songs, while
making crafts about Jewish holidays and customs. The first Sunday Family Funday
will be held on September 30, 2007, from 10:00 am - 12:00 noon, and is called "Make
Your Own Chocolate Sukkah."

The Sophie Hirsh Srochi Jewish Discovery Museum
also hosts fun and thought-provoking field trips, play groups, and birthday
parties throughout the year. The Museum is located at the Marcus Jewish
Community Center of Atlanta (MJCCA), 5342
Tilly Mill Road, Dunwoody. Museum hours: Tues.,
